Harriet Tubman was formidable abolitionist and patriot who helped free hundreds of slaves in the mid-1800s.  While most often depicted through weathered photographs taken later in her life, in her late 20s Harriet began her courageous missions guiding the enslaved through the Underground Railroad network. This powerful artwork reimagines a young Harriet with dynamic imagery of fierce, determined, and fully prepared leader. Dressed in bold outlaw regalia, she stands in front and center holding her signature shotgun and a glowing lantern, symbolizing both protection and hope. Behind her, a group of freedom seekers follows under the cloak of night.
